Homestead Farm will be selling at the 2007 New Zealand Expo auction a top very well bred Huacaya female. 'Bred in the purple' Hadstock N.Z Passion is by last years Supreme Champion and AANZ top show Huacaya 'Homestead Farm Apollo'.

If you require more info or would like to see this girl, she is entered in the Ashburton & Palmerson North A & P shows before going on to be shown at the expo in Hamilton.... 6 months old, solid white, and a true to type Huacaya with a fleece to die for.

Don't miss her if you require the best Alpaca we have ever bred. We have bred some good ones including her Sire, but this girl is very special.

On 29th June, Russell passed the AANZ President's position to Chris Strack.

After 2 years of hard work as the New Zealand President, Russell is now looking forward to trips to the UK, and Australia to catch up with friends and family.

Homestead Farm Apollo : Supreme Champion Huacaya fleece AND Supreme Champion Huacaya!!

'Apollo' won both awards at the AANZ National Expo 2006 in Christchurch. His other achievements were:

  • 1st in Sires progeny as one of 3 Benleigh Bellisimo offspring.
  • Champion of show White/Lt Fawn.

As a wild card in the National auction he was passed in at a bid of $82,000.

Although an increased offer was made after the auction, this offer did not meet the reserve price.

UPDATE......Sale price $ 16,000.00 + GST The Auction is the final event of the 3 day National AANZ Alpaca Expo held in Christchurch. Homestead Farm have 9 entries in the Huacaya & Suri breed section as well as a trade stand. We will be in attendance for the 3 days of the Expo.

HOMESTEAD FARM has closed down it's Australian operation and all Alpaca owned or used by us in our ET work across the Tasman have been imported into New Zealand. We shall continue with embryo transplants in New Zealand The very famous 'Purrumbete Sweet Freedom' is now residing in New Zealand and is to be used in the ET program. HOMESTEAD FARM will have a limited number of breeding females from the Australian shipment, mated to our young ET sires, for sale in May.... WATCH THIS SPACE....

'HOMESTEAD FARM APOLLO' Our light fawn Herdsire, by 'Benleigh Bellisimo' out of 'Benleigh Debut ET'. Has before his 2nd birthday confirmed his fertility. Canterbury A & P Show 05: Judged Supreme Champion Huacaya. Apollo will be at this years spring shows. We now have our first confirmed pregnancy by 'Apollo' An embryo transplanted in March 06.

Our Huacaya intermediate female ' HOMESTEAD FARM JULIE M ' ( By 'Jolimont Warrior' out of 'Jolimont Roberta' ) was Supreme Champion Huacaya at the McKenzie Highland A & P show on Easter Monday. 'HADSTOCK N.Z. TITAN' was Supreme Champion Suri Alpaca at the same show. This young male has been sold to Adobe Park Alpacas. We wish Brian & Maggie all the best for this future herd sire.

AUCTION------A unreserved sale of classic Alpaca stock will go to auction at HOMESTEAD FARM 1st & 2nd October 2005. Catalogues with details of the 40 + animals on offer, all owned by Homestead Farm, will be available in late August. We will be keeping 5/6 elite females of both breeds. All other females,( except culls ) plus some stud males, will go under the hammer in an unreserved auction.

HOMESTEAD FARM.....Have started their New Zealand E T program. Jane Vaughan & David Hopkins, Australian Vets, are in charge of the project, and are attending the animals. RESULT.....8 embryo's transferred into recipients.... The first time this has been done in New Zealand. The program is to be repeated in April. Hadstock N.Z. Fitzroy.......Supreme Champion Huacaya at the Auckland Royal A & P Show, and the N.Z. Royal show at Invercargill in 2004 has been sold to: Grant & Julie Mansell and Peter & Miriam Dixon. This brown male has consistently won broad ribbons against the best whites in New Zealand. Russell & Carolyn recommend this male to North Island breeders, and wish the new owners every success with him.

Hadstock N.Z. Campbell.......The Champion Suri by Cedar House Raphael has been sold to Murray & Yumiko King of Wakefield, Nelson. Hadstock N.Z. Galaxy....... Jnr Champion Suri at the Royal in Invercargill and the Canterbury A & P show is a half brother to Campbell by Cedar House Prince of Stars. He has been sold to Eric & Gaye Lister of Linton, Palmerston North. Russell & Carolyn wish both Alpaca Studs well with these young males.

Carolyn & Russell are back from the European trip. Visited 7 Alpaca studs in England, receiving great hospitality, and viewed some amazing Alpaca that have been recently imported from Peru & Australia. In Italy saw the use of Alpaca fleece blends in locally produced cloth, interesting & educational, however failed in the main aim of the visit. To identify a manufacturer of 100% Alpaca cloth.

At 'HOMESTEAD FARM' we are preparing to host the delegates to the black & coloured sheep world conference. We are expecting 150 people to wine & dine on the evening of the 15th November. Alpacas will be on display, and we will be talking to the delegates about the N.Z. Alpaca and our industry. The conference is based in Christchurch and has been organised to coincide with the Canterbury A & P Show.

What a great AANZ conference at Rotorua.....Thank you organising committee.....If you didn't attend you missed something special. If you were there it was enjoyable catching up with so many fellow breeders. It's now back to the Alpacas with more knowledge, and renewed vigour.

Ashburton Spinners and Weavers held their open day 14th June. Russell was the guest speaker and HOMESTEAD FARM had their usual trade stand. Carolyn was kept busy as interest in Alpaca and Alpaca related products has never been greater!

A very special little male has arrived at HOMESTEAD FARM...'Benleigh Commander' The first offspring of 'Purrumbete Sweet Freedom' to come to N.Z. He was purchased by HOMESTEAD FARM October 2003. The first recipient female carrying a 'Sweet Freedom' embryo has also arrived. We can report that further embryo's implanted in recipient females will be coming to New Zealand later this year. A variety of top Aussie males are being used in the embryo program.

At HOMESTEAD FARM we have our 4th homozygous Suri stud male.......Yes!! 'Cedar House Brandy Liquer' has left 8 Suri Cria to Huacaya females, and 6 Suri Cria to Suri females. 'Brandy Liquer' has left black ----- White Cria, but in the main dark colours. We are preparing photos of his Cria for an advert in the next Alpaca magazine. Come visit and have a look!!

Homestead Farm received the news from 'Benleigh' that the first embryo from 'Purrumbete Sweet Freedom' has successfully been implanted into a recipient female. This recipient Alpaca is now 60 days pregnant. A further 2 embryo have been successfully implanted in recipient females. All embryo's are by 'Benleigh Bellisamo' Sweet Freedom has a male cria at foot, also by 'Bellisamo', ( 'Benleigh Commander' ) Allan Jinks reports that he is looking good, and still retains his potential as a stud male. 'Commander' is expected to be in N.Z. April 04.

In November we will be importing an embryo into New Zealand. A first for this country, the recipient female 'Silver Slipper' will be carrying the embryo of 'Benleigh Lima Lass' who was mated with 'Benleigh Bellisimo'.

'Gathering of the Donkeys' Yes the Donkey society of N.Z. is holding its annual conference in Ashburton the weekend of 17th 18th May. They are visiting HOMESTEAD FARM to learn about Alpacas on Sunday. Last week we had a visit from the national South Dorset Down sheep Assn.

Eric and Gaye Lister who own one of the top N.I. Alpaca Studs [Thief of Hearts] visited us recently, and took back to Palmerston North several males. Of these HADSTOCK N.Z. CLASSIQUE, a very good dense Huacaya,is settling girls, and the Suri male HADSTOCK N.Z. ROBBIE, although not old enough to mate, takes pride of place at the stud. We have recently purchased a young female, being the result of an embryo transplant. Her name: BENLEIGH DEBUT [ET] We are told that she is not only very well bred, but is 100% Barreda bred. She is currently being mated to Benleigh Bellisimo, [named after an eating establishment in Queenstown] and will be in N.Z. later this year.

On page 21 of the May issue of 'GROWING TODAY' you will find an artical written by Jocelyn McIlraith [a freelance journalist] about HOMESTEAD FARM. Unfortunatly it is claimed that the photo's were also by Jocelyn, not true, the photo of Robbie was taken by Anne Rogers, AANZ magazine editor. By the way Hadstock N.Z. Robbie is in the N.I. and received Reserve Champion Suri at the Royal Auckland Show.

What a great day we had at the Mackenzie Highland Show, Fairlie...Champion Suri with CEDAR HOUSE PRINCE OF STARS...Champion Huacaya with CEDAR HOUSE WOOLMAKER 2...Reserve Champion Fleece, with Hadstock N.Z. Saffron...The Champion fleece was Hadstock N.Z. Dropkick, the Stud male carrying our Herd Prefix 1st shearing.
